EMERGENCY PLANS

WHAKATANE SUGGESTIONS [FROM OTJR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHAKATANE, Friday In a letter to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, the Whakatane county clerk, Mr. C. G. Lupas, suggested that tho emergency precautions schema could bo more effectively administered in tho county by decentralisation, and that consideration be given to tho question'of evacuation. Hundreds of men over the age limit with previous military service wero willing and anxious to do anything possible in home defence, and the council considered the military authorities should give these men a musketry and arms course locally.

A reply stated that consultations on tho points raised would take placed when Mr. A. G. Harper, of the Internal Affairs Department, visited Whakatane within a few days.
