LAKE PUPUKE WATER

NEW FILTRATION PLANT Plans for a new filtration and treatment plant at Lake Pupuke, to cost nearly £14.000, have been approved by the Devonport Borough Council. It was suggested by the Mayor, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, that the council should use the borough overdraft to finance the scheme.

This step was necessary, stated Mr. Meikle, for, owing to the necessity of proceeding immediately with the installation, it would be impossible for the North Shore Water Board to arrange legal and financial matters. The Health Department had informed the council that it was desirable that the plant should be installed by the summer. The Northcote Borough Council is considering participation in the scheme and sharing of the cost with Devonport.
