ROTORUA HOSPITAL SITE
BOROUGH COUNCIL'S VIEW [by telegraph—owx correspondent] ROTORUA, Thursday Approval of the stand taken by. the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, when replying to the Department of Health regarding the control of t.lie Pukeroa reserve, was expressed by the Rotorua Borough Council at it's meeting last evening. The Mayor had stated that both the council and the Xgati-Whakaue tribe were opposed to the vesting of the area in the Waikato Hospital Board, but that a lease was a different proposition. The need for improvements at the hospital was urgent, and the arrangements for the tenure could no longer be delayed, stated the Minister of Health, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong in a letter to the Mayor, and, although the department intended to grant the Hospital Board a lease, it was quite prepared for control to revert to three trustees, as suggested by the council, at any time when the area ceased to bo used for hospital purposes. The council was of the opinion that it would not be justified in any action that would result in further delay.
