SNOW IN HAWKE'S BAY

HEAVY FROSTS AT GISBORNE A heavy fall of snow covered the Rualiine and Kaweka Ranges, Hawke's Bay, on Monday, flakes of snow falling in Hastings, accompanied by a bitterly cold wind. This was in vivid contrast to the weather in June, when there was sunshine on 29 days and only 0.37 in. of rain, the lowest since 1909, was recorded. Snow also fell in Pahiatua, the Tararua Ranges being thickly coated and tho whole countryside being covered to a depth of 2in. Following 14 frosts in Gisborne during June, finishing with ' one of 10 degrees on Sunday, July started with three successive frosts, that of yesterday morning being of 12 degrees. This equalled the record for the winter.
