A FOOL'S PARADISE

Sir, —it is high time that New Zealand awoke to the fact that it has been living in a fool's paradise for the past five years; France's fate should have brought it home to \is. After we have defeated Hitler and his satellites, and this can be accomplished only by using all the resources o£ the Empire, there will certainlr be a drastic modification of the standard of living to which we at present aspire, and the sooner we begin to accustom ourselves to the change, the better. When we see new awards being made giving increased wages and a continuation of the 40-hour week one wonders whether our administrators would not be bettor placed in Bedlam than in the positions they occupy. W.M.
