DISPUTE SUSPENDED
CONCILIATION COUNCIL' PARTIES AGREE TO ADJOURN A unanimous agreement to adjourn the proceedings until the war situation improves was readied yesterday at a Conciliation Council appointed to consider the Auckland provincial journalists' dispute. Mr. S. Ritchie, commissioner, presided. The advocate for the union, Mr. W. N. Pharazyn, stated that the current award was made in 1937, and action toward and revision of its conditions had been delayed, by circumstances with which assessors were familiar. The formalities in connection with the present dispute had been completed several weeks ago. The union representatives acknowledged that the war situation had altered the position. On behalf of the employers, Mr. L. J. Berry said that in their opinion the workers should be satisfied, under present conditions, to. allow the current award to run on, unless thej' could demonstrate that any of its provisions had caused substantial grievances. He was informed that the provincial journalists were not anxious to disturb the exisiting arrangements. After a short adjournment, Mr. Pharazyn announced that the workers assessors had agreed" that the proceedings should _be_ adjourned. The commissioner said he considered the parties were well advised to postpone the consideration of the dispute. He hoped that when the council met a"-ain thev would all be rejoicing at the victorious termination of the war. He would summon the council again when the representatives of the parties desired him to do so.
