THE WEEKLY NEWS
ADVANCE OF GERMANS .THRUST INTO FRANCE TOPICAL WAR ARTICLES "No matter what the present peril, the aim of the new British Government is victory—utter and complete," writes Mr. L. K. Munro in the current issue of The Weekly News, which is on sale to-day. "Germany is fighting a battle against time, or what is much the same, the staying power of the Allies." He adds that if the Allies hold the present avalanche Hitler will have lost the war, for by the time the winter comes a realisation that the blitzkrieg has failed will sap the morale of the nation. Discussing the situation in northern France, the military correspondent of The Weekly News points out that factors which the Germans must take into consideration are intact and wellequipped Allied armies, plus British stubbornness and what Mr. Churchill has called the Frencli genius for counter-attack. Another commentator, reviewing the war in the air, says that quality in men and machines is telling in the Allies' favour and that no air force in the world has such a numerical superiority over the Allies that it can afford to lose four aeroplanes to the Allies' one. News pictures in the illustrated section include scenes of the mobilisation of the Third Echelon. Modern war machines of the air and the land and pre-invasion scenes in Holland and Belgium are of topical interest. There are also photographs of the competitors in the ladies' golf tournament at Botorua. The usual fashion, social, magazine, sporting and farming sections are included in an issue of interest to all sections of the community.
