SAILORS' HOME
WORK IN AUCKLAND The Auckland Sailors' Home, which has accommodated shipwrecked crews from the time of the Wairarapa wreck in 1894, has been a home for veteran sailors and for those casually on shore for the past 55 years, states the report to be presented at the annual meeting on June 10. True to their tradition, British seamen were again risking their lives under war conditions at sea, and those on land could discharge some of their debt of gratitude by supporting institutions for tlio use of seamen when they returned, states the report. The accounts showed an income on the general account of £3.377, which included £3OO from the Minister of Internal Affairs and £92 from 3£ing George's Fund for Sailors. Tho income was £144 in excess of the previous year and the accounts closed with a deficiency of £l6.
