MR. EDEN'S MESSAGE

ASSOCIATIONS WITH CITY Congratulations to Mr. Anthony Eden on his appointment as Secretary of State for War were forwarded by the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis. Mr. Eden is a member of the family from which Auckland and Mount Eden took their names. Sir Ernest sent the following cablegram to Mr. Eden:—"The long association of your family narnq aj>.d its proud perpetuation in the city's nomenclature prompts this message of congratulations from the citizens, who wish you every success in the discharge of your new and important duties." The. following reply has been received:—"l am most grateful for your message, which gives me great encouragement in * my' new work. Please convey my thanks to the citizens."
