FORTY YEARS' SERVICE
SURVEY OFFICIAL RETIRES
After 40 years' service with the and Surrey Department, Mr. 11. M. Kensington, inspector of surveys, "has retired. He was; presented with* a : chiming clock by the officers of the department and a pet of pipes by the members of the Surveyors'' Auckland, at a farewell on Monday. . '.Born in Auckland in 1876, Mr. Kensington was educated at Queen's College, and joined the department in 191)0, when lie undertook surveys in the I Miiingakalria district. In 1307 he was [ engaged as an assistant in making standard snivevs in Auckland. '.Mr. Kensington carried out simitar wcivk in other North Island towns, and after the Napier earthquake he took charge of the necessary work in the Hawke's Bay district. This work occupied five years and included the xesurvey of Napier, ; Hastings and Wairoa.
