DECREASE FOR QUARTER MARKED DROP IN MARCH The total value of the build ins permits; issued by the City Council during the first three months of 1940 amounted to £226,242, which is £5411 less than that for the same period last year, when the total was £231,653, a record. Compared with the figures for 1938, this year's total shows a substantial rise, that for the election year standing at £167,296. The March figures show a decrease of £35,000 compared with those for. last March, when the total was £97,191. This month's amount was £62,366. During March, 137 permits were issued, the principal undertakings being a block <.f four Hats, a brick and concrete store, and additions to a school.
