CRUSHED BY TREE

YOUNG FARMER KILLED PINNED BY FALLING TRUNK t INQUEST OPENED AT PUTARURU [FROM OUR ow.v CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Tuesday A fatal tree-felling accident occurred at Te Whetu, Putaruru, yesterday, when Mr. Samuel Fabian Wills, single, aged 30, was killed. Mr. Wills, who was a farmer living at Te Whetu, was engaged with Mr. Norman Cross in felling tawa trees on his property for the Auckland market. Mr. Cross was wielding the axe, and Mr. Wills was standing some distance away when the tree fell. In its fall the tawa struck two other trees, one of which, a honeysuckle, was uprooted. In falling, this tree caught Mr. Wills and pinned him to the ground, severely crushing him. An inquest was opened before the coroner, Mr. M. St. J. Paxton, and after several witnesses had given evidence it was adjourned.
