OTOROHANGA CARNIVAL RESULTS OF SECOND DAY WADE WINS BIG WHEEL RACE [fkom our own <oiuu:si'oni)knt| OTOROHAXGA, Tuesday Ideal weather eonditions I'avourod the second day of the Krister sports carnival, held on the island reserve, Otorohanga. There was ail attendance of 14,000 spectators, who were thrilled throughout the day by the cycling, athletic and axemen's contests, the Maori hakas, national 'dancing, and other competitions. Among visitors present were Captain W. J. Parry, R.X.. of H.M.S. Achilles, and Airs. Parry, Major H. S. S. Westmaoott, 0.8. E., and Mrs. We'stmaeott, and Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. for Waitomo. The president of the club, Mr. J. A. Ormsby, welcomeil Captain and Mrs. Parry, tlie former replying at length, and being accorded tumultuous applause at the conclusion of an interesting address. The visitors were thrilled by the Maori haka welcome, and the chopping events, which they had seen for the first time. The Hamilton Pipe Band provided excellent music, while the national dancing was again a popular feature of the carnival. Tuesday Although rain fell during the greater part of the day the annual sports fixture of the Maungatapere Sports Club was held yesterday, when the greater part of the programme concluded. The track was heavy, hut a following wind made good times possible. Large entries had been received for the track, cycle and wood-chopping events, these including athletes from Auckland and cyclists from as far south as New Plymouth.
