LICENSING LAWS
WOMEN'S RESOLUTION [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] IXVERCARGILL, Monday The following resolution was carried at the Dominion conference of the Women's Christian Temperance Union to-day:— "That the Dominion Women's Christian Temperance Union in convention assembled desires to bring under the notice of Cabinet Ministers serious evasions of the law reported by the inspector of police to the Auckland Licensing Committee and the magistrate's comments thereon. This convention wishes to emphasise the fact that alcohol is a habit-forming drug and licensees who are financially interested in increasing its sale are breaking the law in order to cultivate this habit in young men and so create regular customers. "Taking the full facts into consideration, this convention is of the opinion that, in fairness to the men who are offering their lives in the defence of all we hold dear, national prohibition should be enacted for the duration of the war.''
