SHOOTING OF GODWIT
Sir, —With appreciation 1 read in Monday's Hkkam> of Major .1. R. Kirk's letter to the Forest and Bin Protection Society re the shooting of godwits. It has always been a mystery to me how anyone could deliberately destroy those little feathered visitors to our shores, whose coming and going is of such interest to so many naturelovers. Surely if other countries protect them we, who pride ourselves on our enlightenment, should also do so and make the shooting of these little creatures a statutory offence. I sincerely trust and hope that Major Kirk will meet with support from the right quarters in his very humane effort so that when next season the birds return from the Arctic they will find sanctuary here in New Zealand instead of guns. SI'AKK THE G01)WIT.
