DUST-CART STRUCK
COLLISION WITH TRAM HORSE AND DRIVER UNHURT Struck by an inward-bound traniear in Queen Street above the Town Hall early yesterday afternoon, a dust-cart belonging to the City Council was severed from the horse drawing it, without apparent injury either to the driver, Mr. A. De Senna, or to the horse. The tramcar was fairly extensively damaged and the air-brake put out of action, so that the motorman, Mr. M. A. Pearce, who also escaped injury, had to run the length of the car to the back controls before he could stop .the tram. The liorse drawing the dust-cart was being led across Queen Street when the collision occurred. The front of the tram struck squarely between horse and cart, smashing the shafts and hurling the horse one way and the cart the Duller. The horse was knocked over, but got to its feet and trotted up Queen Street. The front of the tramcar was smashed in, glass broken, a panel torn off and some of the controls put out of action.
