TRIBUTE TO MR. A. ELY / ■ An expression of appreciation of the services to the city of the past-presi-dent of thfe Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Mr. A. Ely, during his term of office, was received at a meeting of the council of the chamber yesterday from the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. Sir Ernest said ho had made many calls on Mr. Ely's co-operation and his responses had been an object lesson in co-operation and loyalty. His energies in patriotic activities had been indefatigable and an inspiration to his associates. He had proved an admirable collaborator, while protecting to the hilt the interests he represented.
