BOAT HARBOUR WORK
GOOD PROGRESS MADE Tlie development of the St. Mary's Bay and Orakei boat harbours was reviewed by the superintendent and engineer, Mr. D. Holderness, when reporting to a meeting of the Auckland Harbour .Board yesterday. Excellent progress was being made by the' contractors on the erection of the clubhouses in St. Mary's Bay, Mr. Holderuess said. The Victoria Cruising Club's building was practically completed, and the premises of the New Zealand Power Boat Association, rowing clubs, and the Richmond Cruising Club were well advanced.
Dealing with Orakei, Mr. Holderness said that the dinghy locker building in Hobson Bay was completed except for the fitting of decking on the lower ends of the skidways, which could only be attended to during exceptionally low tides. The gridiron at the western end of the building was completed, and piles had been driven for the gridiron at the eastern end. Work was being pushed ahead on tho preparation of the piles for the main wavescreen, Mr. Holderness added. A start with pile driving had' been made at the eastern end, near Orakei Wharf, where 18 piles were in place.
