AFFLICTED TURKS EARTHQUAKE AREAS . DEATHS IN TORRENTS VILLAGES SWEPT AWAY By Telegraph—Press Association—.Copyright ANKARA, Jan. 2 Torrents in the Bursa region swept hundreds of persons and whole villages into the sea as the downpours and earth tremors continued. Death rolls reported are:— At Giresun. 1500', and at Ordu 900. Four hundred houses were demolished at Kamal Pasha, and 5000 at Ordu. The first relief ship from Istanbul _ arrived at Ordu after a perilous voyage. One thousand destitute people were found wandering naked in one district in peril from hungermaddened dogs and wolves, which soldiers shot. The clearing' up of Erzindjan is proceeding. People were found living in spite of five days of burial in ruins. About 100 people .who were injured in the earthquakes in the Erzindjr.n area have arrived at Ankara by train. They reported' that most of tlie officers and soldiers of the garrison were killed, and many people committed suicide because they had seen their families perish. Some- people buried their dead with their own hands. Epidemics are owing to the number of bodies not buried.
