BAND COMPETITIONS

CENTENNIAL CONTESTS [by telegraph—PßESS association] WELLINGTON, Friday Record aggregate entries have been received for the Centennial champion brass band contests to be held nt Wellington on February 18 to 25 inclusive. There arc 12 entries for the A grade contest and 18 for the 13 grade. The closing date for entries fol" the C grade has been extended until next week. The contest music has arrived from England and has been distributed to the bniuls. Test selections for the A grade bands are works by Beethoven and Tschaikowsky, both nrranged by W. Rimmcr. The B grade tests are Spohr's "Faust," arranged by J. A. Greenwood, and Verdi's "Macßeth," arranged by J. Ord Hume. The test piece for the C grade is the band's own choice, as are tlfe march tests.
