NORTHCOTE WOMEN
MEETING OF LEAGUE The monthly meeting of the Northcote Women's Progressive League, held in the Parish Hall last week was largely attended. The president, Mrs. Carter, stated that the collection at Northcote for the St. .lohn Ambulance Association amounted to £2B, which was £1 more than the previous year. The bring-and-buv stall held at the last meeting realised £4, portion of which was expended on wool for knitting socks by members. The convener of the Wilson Home Committee, Mrs. A. Campbell, stated that Mrs. M. liowles had undertaken to make up 24 sets of shirts and shorts for the crippled children at the Wilson Home, Takapuna. A resolution was carried by a substantial majority protesting to the Minister in charge of broadcasting against the proposed expenditure of £BO,OOO on a • new radio station at Auckland "while our lads in camps are neither well clad nor well fed."
