Mrs. H. T. Merritt, of Papatoetoe, has returned from a visit to Rotorua. At the Royal Hotel are Miss Doris Tuark (New York), Miss M. Howe (Dunedin). Miss Susan Banks, of Cambridge, is the guest of Miss Margaret Reid, llemuera. Miss D. Wilson, of Hastings, is the guest of Miss Noel Horrocks, of Bassett Road, Remuera. Mrs. Garth Williams, of Selwyn Avenue, Mission May, has left to spend a holiday at Rotorua. Miss Dallys McGirr, of King Edward Street, Mount Albert, will leave by air to-day for Christchurch. Miss Jean Jenkin, who has been the guest of Mrs. O. R. Clemson, of Thames, has returned to Auckland. Mrs. Harry Horrocks, of Bassett Road, Remuera, has left to visit the Centennial Exhibition in Wellington. Miss Patricia Dawson, of Upland Road, will leave at the end of the week to spend a short holiday at Hamilton. Miss Margaret Russell, of O'Rorke Street, will leave at the end of the week to visit Hamilton and Rotorua. Mrs. Cuthbert Mitford, who has been spending the past fire weeks at Rotorua, will return to Auckland on Friday. Miss L. Withers, who has been visiting Auckland, left by the Mariposa on Monday en route to her home in Singapore. Mrs Charles Saunders and her two daughters, of King's Road, Mount Roskill, will leave by air to-day for Christchurch. Mrs. Cowper (Melbourne), Miss Isabel M. Flordyce (Brisbane), and Miss M. C. Firth (Wellington), are at the Station Hotel. Mrs. A. V. Fraer, of Clarence Street, Devonport, has returned from a visit to her mother, Mrs. C. J. Sandilands, of Dunedin. Miss Beryl Steward was appointed assistant in the town clerk's office at North cote last night. Miss M. L. Partridge, of Auckland, has returned from a visit to her sister, Mrs. W. B. Clayton, of Duncan, Vancouver Island, Canada. Mrs. F. Jackson Parson, who has been visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Holder Mirams, of Dunedin, has returned to Auckland. Mrs. L. C. Rathbone, of Victoria Avenue, Remuera, will leave at the end of the week to visit her daughter-in-law, Mrs. W. Rathbone, at Waingaro.
Mrs. L. J. Cattell (Christchurch), Mrs. A. R. Warburton, Mrs. C. G. Simpson. Mrs. G. Halliwell and Miss L. Coutts-Moon ("Wellington) are at the Central Hotel. Mrs. P. Y. Miles, of Wellington, who has been staying at Hotel Cargen, left Auckland yesterday for Tauranga and Rotorua. She Avas accompanied by her sister. Mrs. Duncan Ross, Sylvia Park, Otahuhu. Mrs. H. A. Scutts and Miss Rene Scutts, of Dulwich Hill, Sydney, arrived in Auckland by the Mariposa, and are the guests of Mrs. Scutts' daughter, Mrs. Gordon Masters, of Sandringham. Lady Young, of Hampshire, England, has arrived to spend some time in New Zealand, both touring the country and staying with friends. Her plans are indefinite, but she originally intended to return home by a Dutch ship. Mrs. Charles Lloyd-Jones and her daughter, Miss Marv Lloyd-Jone9, of London, who recently arrived in the Dominion, have taken Mrs. E. Harrison Gregor3 r 's house in O'Neill Avenue, Takapuna, for the summer months. - An address on. early New Zealand was given by Mrs. Leitz to members of tlie Progressive Club of the Y.W.C.A. recently. A report of the activities of the Women's Council was given by Mrs. Robson. The president, Mrs. W. Murdoch, presided. Mrs. T. N. Baxter, of Calcutta, who has been spending several months with her mother, Mrs. J. W. Frater, of Mountain Road, Epsom, left on Monday for Sydney to visit relatives before returning to India. Mrs. Frater will accompany her to Sydney. A talk on the sights of Paris, and on a short cruise to Greece, was given yesterday by Bliss Babette Buddie at the fortnightly business girls' luncheon, which took place at tne Milne nnd Chovce reception hall. Mr. E. McDonald presided, and later presented Miss Buddie with a shoulder spray. Miss Elva Reynolds has left for India, where she will resume her work in the Dornakal Diocese under the Church Missionarv Society. Miss Reynolds will assist Miss Margaret Young in a girls' high school in Bezwada. Both Miss Reynolds and Miss Young are graduates of the Auckland University College. The annual meeting and election of officers of the Bible in Schools League, women's committee, took place in the Diocesan Board room recently.' Mrs. Hugh Kasper presided. The following officers wore re-elected: —President, Mrs. H. , Kasper; vice-president, Mrs. Cranston; secretary, Mrs. R. M. Gordon; treasurer, Mrs. H. Hesketh. Miss M. B. Waddell, of St. Heliers. Auckland, after completing a tour of Scotland and the Midlands, was staying at Colwvn Bay at the outbreak of war, wrote our London correspondent on October 27. She is now going to Newcastle-on-Tyne to join Mrs. Muriel Rich, who has been in hospital there and is now recovering from a serious illness.
