ENGINEER SENTENCED
A YEAR'S HARD LABOUR
Sentence was passed by Mr. Justice Callan in the Supreme Court yesterday on William Ferdon Fast, engineer '-V aged 29, who had been found guilty of forgery and uttering. Mr. G. S. R ; ■ Meredith appeared for the Crown'and ' Mr. McCarthy represented the prisoner.
Mr. McCarthy said that Fast was a * married man with two young children He was a clever engineer and had several patents to his credit and wheD he was freed from liquor .he was an exceptionally good worker." \ . His Honor said he was sorry it would be inconsistent with his> dubto grant. probation in this case This young man had at least fire previousconvictions for oEsimces involving dishonesty, and was sentenced to a month's imprisonment as recently as August 14. This latest offence, was very deliberate and very well contrail. He would be sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour.
