SAMOAN PLANTATION •''' . - / NO ARREST. YET MADE [ KNIFE DUEL AT- ALEIPATA NATIVE ON CAPITAL CHARGE [from our own correspondent] APIA, Samoa, Oct. "23 Yesterday morning a case of murder Jwas discovered in a native taro plantation adjoining the main road to Malololelei. The owner, a native of Nieue, was found with his head almost severed from his body. He had left his home near Apia the previous evening for the purpose of visiting the plantation and as he had not returned a search was made and the tragedy discovered. Ho had apparently been slashed about the face and head with some sharp instrument and struck across the back of the neck when in a stooping position. Up to ;the present no arrest has been made iand few particulars arc available.
At Aleipata two natives bad a quarrel over firewood, which led to blows and finally to a knife duel, in which one was so severely wounded that he died last week in the hospital. The assailant, who was also wounded, was charged with murder and remanded.
