SCRUTINY OF WAR RECORDS GENERAL MIAJA EXILED (Received October 29, 5.5 p.m.) MADRID, Oct. -28 Thousands of Republican soldiers are registering under General Franco's order warning thorn of arrest in default of registration by Wednesday next. This means that the Spanish Government is scrutinising the war record of every able-bodied man from Republican territory. A Court of Responsibilities at Melilla has sentenced General Miaja, who is at present in Mexico, to 15 years' exile, and the loss of political rights, says the Madrid correspondent of tho British United Pi'ess. In addition, the property of General Miaja,' who was commander of Madrid during the Civil War, is to be confiscated. Senora Miaja has been fined 1,000,000 pesetas. CHILDREN TO RETURN RELIEF COMMITTEES' WORK (Roceived October 29, 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless LONDON, Oct. 2S Announcing that its decision had been taken in co-operation with tho Foreign Office to return to Spain in the courso of the next few weeks every child who can possibly return, the Basque Children's Committee gave some interesting details of tho work of the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief, the British Committee for Refugees from Spain, and tho Basque Children's Committee. Sinco the outbreak of war in Spain, voluntary organisations throughout tho world raised over £4,500,000. Britain heads the list, just ahead of the United States and France, with a total of over £1,000,000. Between the winter of 1938 and the first three months of 1939, tho National .Toint Committee sent 29 foodships to Spain.
