LIQUOR FOR MEMBERS
UNCHARTERED CLUB FINED [by telegraph—PßESS association] DUNEDIN, Friday "The circumstances are unusual, the case being the first of its kind in Dunedin and rare in the Dominion," stated a police officer when the executive officers of the Working Men's Social Club were charged that, the club having no charter, thev supplied liquor to members, payment being made indirectlv bv coupons of a face value of 3d. The police said the club was registered under the Friendly Societies Registration Act and had applied for a charter, which had been declined. The police added they honestly believed the defendants had acted in a mistaken conception of their rights. The club was well conducted and orderly- and drinking activities played a very minor part. defendant was fined 10s.
