TAKANINI TRACK

FAST FOUR FURLONGS effort, by glen connell HIGH SEA PERFORMS SOLIDLY PENZANCE RUNS SMART THREE Ji brilliant half-mile by Glen Connell, a solid seven furlongs by High Sen, and a smart three furlongs by Penzance were the features of the work at Takanini They galloped the way round on the inside grass in view of the Wliangnrei meeting next week. Ihe effort of Glen Connell was outstanding and ho recorded 0110 of the best gallops seen for some considerable time. Orclio (Cnriven) led Valamito (Inglis) over five furlonirs in 1.5 3-d. They were cased uji niltT going (lie first half-mile and were actually only cantering past the post. Both horses hit out in pleasing style. Sunola (Smith) and Proud Fox (McMinn) went five furlongs from tiie six-furlong post in l.t, with little between them at the finish. The full six furlongs occupied l.io 3-5, hut they »-ere 'icing pulled up over the concluding furlong. Sunola is in great heart. Veritable (Ferguson) cantered round to tho three-furlong post and sprinted home in 3$ l-ss. He has not been overtaxed lately and is looking very well. /•Brilliant Speed Glen Connell (Ferguson) showed brilliant speed over four furlongs in -18 3-os, finishing full of running. There was additional merit in his performance because lie was carrying upward of 111 stone. Unouestionably a verv speedy colt, Glen Connell is a picture and he should soon atone fur past failures. Brazilian (Mc.V.inn) and Milanion (Bcguely) vers on terms throughout five furlongs 'in 1.1 2-5, both giving the impression that they could have done a little better. It is intended to race thefjc goldings at Whangarei. Anion and Arvakur were also sprinted four furlongs but were not timed. They hit out well. Mia Acrea (Ferguson), after covering the first three in 10s, ran six furlongs in 1.-jy. He should be capable of improved form in public now that tho tracks are becoming firmer. / , Penzance (Spiuley) worked very freely over three furlongs, hitting out in dashing style to record 30 3-ss. She appears to be coming right back to her best and in all probability ■will make reappearance at Whangarei next week. Birthday Boy (Clark) and High Sea (Begnely) wero associated in a solidly-run seven furlongs in 1.30. the first four in 51 l-ss. It was a pleasing efTort on tho part of both horses, particularly High Sea, who promises to be in first-class order for tho Whangarei//Cup, in which ho should race prominently. Hunting Bee and Vaalsstar Hunting tßce (Bartie) and Vaalsstar (Kingi) cantered round to the three-furlong post and sprinted homo in 37 3-ss. They finished together and did their work weli. Vaalsstar was having his first sprint since racing at Paeroa. Hunting Bee is to race at Whangarei. The Dozer (Cleaver), assisted Ascot Bloom (Logan) in a sprint over three furlongs in 37 2-oS, and, easing up, completed another furlong in 14 3-os, to make 52s for tho halfmile. Ascot Bloom, a two-year-old by Foxbridge from Curraghmore, is to make his •' debut at the. Avondale meeting in November. The Vaals—Sea Song filly (Kingi) ran three furlongs nicely in 37 1-os. She has come to hand pleasingly and will-make her debut at Whangafei. Gay Movie (Gray) and Te Kawiti (Clark; wero allotted an easy halfmile in 51 3-ss. There was little between them, at. the finish,, although Te Kawiti appeared to be going tho better. Gramlora (Cleaver) strode over three furlongs at threequarter pace. Hunter's Rose (Quedley) dashed over the same ground in 375. Sho is a very speedy filly who may be seen to advantage in the near future.

Miss Valerie (Hatwell) and High Crown (Spinle.v) wero sent five furlongs from the mile, post, and, hitting out well, they completed the first three in 37 3-5s and the full distance in 1.3 3-5. It was a very satisfactory effort for novices. Solitary /Spinier) again worked well with Buccaneer (Hatwell), and from the mile post they ran four furlongs in 00 2-ss, easing up to complete five furlongs in 1.4 2-5. Solitary if looking very well and is probably at her 4est. s> /!,- r

Bachelor King Schooled P.ichelor King (Cleaver) was schooled over four fences and Rave an improved display, although he screwed a little at the first fence. Due 'to make his debut as a hurdler at Whangarei, Bachelor King promises to make his presence felt in spite of lack of experience at hurdle racing. Wynardo (Cleaver) had plenty of pace on in a bout over the same number of fences, but jumped the wing of the last. He was taken back and jumped the fence in approved style. Wynardo has had s couple of races over hurdles and on one occasion was a placegetter. He may be an acquisition to the ranks of northern hurdlers. Palustre has been a regular attendant on the tracks, hut has not been worked during the past few days owing to developing soreness. It is not thought that the trouble is serious. Namara returned to Takanini yesterday after running second to Hunting Cat in the 'Waverley Cup. Namara travelled well and it is expected that he will fulfil his Whangarei Cup engagement. A recent addition to the team of A. Tinker is a bay three-year-old gelding by Tea Tray from Camp Princess. He has been broken in and is to commence a preparation immediately. He is to-race in the interests of Mr. B. McKinley, who had Comctarium last season. j Flood Tide Improved Another local trainer to increase his team this week was P. E. Pope, who has taken charge of A'berdovey, by Cambria Park. The newcomer is a two-year-old, possessing many of the characteristics of her sire, is u chestnut and of very solid conformation. On the plough Inver (Coleman) ran the last, six furlongs of his work in 1.2:5, time upon which he'could have improved considerably. Princess Val (Coleman) covered seven furlongs in 1.35. Flood Tide (Coleman), after running the first half-mile in 5*2 2-~>s, completed the same distance in 1.31. Flood Tide sppears greatly improved after his race at the spring meeting at Ellerslie. Maxam and Bronwen were separately allotted useful work and went very freely. They are in first-class order. Others to perform serviceable tasks were Oladynev, Full Hand, Estro. Roniani, Dauber, Lady Fox. First Gold Honey, Inquisitor, Philcourt and Lapidarian.
