FORGERY AND UTTERING
LABOURER FOUND GUILTY REMANDED FOR SENTENCE Charges of forging and uttering., a cheque for £3O and of false pretenced were preferred against WiUiam Ferdon Fast, a labourer, aged 27 (Mr. McCarthy), who appeared for trial before Mr. Justice Callan in the Supreme Court yesterday.
Evidence called by Mr. G, S. R. Meredith for the Crown related to a transaction in which accused and another man were involved. The other man had since pleaded guilty to forging and uttering the cheque. Mr. Meredith submitted that accused and tho man already dealt with had been partners in a fraudulent scheme to profit from the forged cheque. , . v Mr: McCarthy, who did not call evidence, contended that accused was wholly unaware that the cheque, which was actually signed by tho other man, was valueless. ', Accused, was found guilty bn thd forgery and uttering charges and was remanded for sentence. • • -
