TIMBER MILLING RIGHTS [fltOJt OUR OWN COMIESPONI)BNT] HAMILTON, Tuesday • Two disputes over timber 'milling rights, which wore set down for hearing before the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, in the Supreme Court at Hamilton to-day, Were settled out of Court. The cases were those in which Rore Rutene and Mori lliaia, both of Motorua, claimed damages from Samuel Woodward, sawniiller, of Rangitaiki. Mr. R. A. I'otter appeared for both plaintiffs, and defendant was represented by Mr. M. H. ilampson. In the statement of claim it was stated that in 10.'io native owners of blocks of land in the Pahautea district granted timber-cutting rights to defendant, and in 19M7 an injunction was issued to prevent defendant from cutting any more timber, as it was alleged that he' had not paid the full price for the timber and also because lie bad not obtained formal timber-cutting rights. In the settlement with Hon Ihaia, Woodward is to pay £7OB to the owners of the I'ahautea C block and to remove all timber from the land between Kebr. ar.v 24, 1940, and November '24. 15)42. The terms of the settlement with Here Rutene are that defendant is to pay £655 and to remove all the timber from the I'ahautea B block between January 24. 1940, and October 24. 1942.
