PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP The Auckland provincial amateur snooker tourney for tho Billiards. Limited, Cup was continued last evening at Messrs. Billiards. Limited's showrooms, when further games in the quarter-finals wero played. J. Proctor defeated G. Ilogan in two straight games, 52—31, 53—8, and L. F. W. Holdsworth, tho title-holder, defeated W. Whyle, 20 —58. 61—30, 05—10. Both Proctor and ITogan potted accurately in the opening stages of their first game, the result being in doubt right up to the last three halls. Proctor proved more accurate at this stage and won an interesting game b.v 18 points. Ilogan was very much off his game in tho second frame and Proctor, who is a most consistent typo of player, had little difficulty in winning by 41 points. L. F. W. Holdsworth had a hard task to defeat W. Whyle. Whyle gave a brilliant exhibition of potting in the first game and Holdsworth was unable to get within striking distanco. In the second game Holdsworth gained an early lead. Whyle, however, tnado a break of 18 and gained a lead of 14 points. Holdsworth then forced his opponent into errors by repeated snookers, which turned tin: game in liis favour. Whyle doclared with the last, two balls on the table. In the deciding game Holdsworth potted very accurately at the beginning and obtained a good lead. Whyle, who was playing a good uphill game, made a good effort, but Holdsworth secured the blue and pink to win an exciting contest by 25 points. The semi-finals will bo played on Tuesday evening. At 7.30 p.m. L. F. W. Holdsworth will play J. Proctor, and at 8.15 p.m. R. Carrick will meet R. Whitford. CENTURY BREAK BY LINDRUM Playing in a match at. Waihi last night Horaco Lindrum. the Australian snooker champion, made a break of 110, which is his fifth over 100 on his New Zealand tour. This break represents his 00th over a century mado during his career.
