LABOURERS' AWARD
COUNTRY WORK ALLOWANCE / A case stated by a disputes commit t'Ce for the opinion of the Arbitration Court was argued before the Court 3resterday. The question was one of interpretation of a clause in the New Zealand bodies (rural section) labourers' award. It concerned the payment of men sent by the placement officers from various centres to work under scheme 13 for the Waitomn County Council at Pio Pio. They were Housed on the job at Pio Pio, supplied with d cook, allowed amounts of from 21s to 25s weekly for food and paid 2s 4d an hour. The Court was asked to decide.whether these men were entitled to thebenefit of the- country work da use which provides a 2s 6d food allpwnnde for every working day. R l Mr. Justice o'Regan presided. Mr. TH 0. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation appeared for the employers, and Mr. P. JjjT. rßutler, secretary of the New Zealand Labourers' Union, for the workers, v |he Co ( urt reserved its decision.
