WEEK-END ATTRACTIONS
SOCCER AND HOCKEY FINALS SUMMER SPORTS COMMENCE With the winter sports season at its close, chief interest is centred tins week-end in the opening of summer games. Final matches will be played ,to-day in Association football and hockey, the game at Blandford Park being between Auckland and the Navy for the Drummond Cup. A champion o? champions match will also take place between Ponsonby and Onehunga. Interesting play should be seen when the Auckland hockey representatives meet the at Hobson Park this afternoon, the second attraction being Grammar against United for the Kent Cup. Another meeting will be held at the Domain by the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club. The first-base-ball practice games of the new season will be held at the Training College, and a number of the cricket clubs will have their first practices. Rowing and bowling clubs also will hold their official openings to-day. Golf and croquet matches will also be held during the J week-end. In the evening, the Auckland weight-lifting championships will take place in the Hall of Commerce.
