LIQUOR IN TOWN HALL
USE AT SOCIAL FUNCTIONS COUNCIL DEFERS ACTION An amendment to the conditions of letting the Town Hall and concert chamber to cover the introduction of liquor to social functions held there was considered by the City Council last night. The Committee lepoiled Hint it had inquired into complaints about, the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Asociation's "Hard-up Ball," and included a report from the town clerk, Mr. J. Moiling, that the Wellington City Council had a provision that no liquor was to be taken into its building without the written authority of the town clerk. The committee recommended similar provision for Auckland, but alter several members had expressed opposition to the idea ?>f placing all onus on the town clerk it was decided to refer the matter hack to the committee. It was mentioned that action now being considered by the Government might make any steps by the council unnecessary. Mr. A. St. C. Brown suggested the appointment of ofliccrs to govern consumption of liquor in the hall and the careful framing of conditions under which it might he introduced.
