A TAX ON CATS

Sir, —May I suggest a way that money could be raised for the State! We pay a dog tax, why not a cat tax? I should suggest a small tax for a neuter cat (which makes the best hunter) and a heavy tax for a male or ""torn" cat, which does not, as a rule, make much of a hunter. The latter .are far more nuisance than dogs, which can be kept at home, as they overrun other people's property, making the night hideous with fighting; when they ought to be hunting. This tax would have three advantages. 3t would provide revenue, help to combat the rat nuisance, and lessen the cat nuisance. There would, no doubt, be fewer cats, but more of the useful kind. Experience.
