COMPANY'S COMPLAINT
CONTRACT FOR HOSPITAL SUPPLY OF FISH TO BOARD A letter from the Waitemata Fishcries, Limited, complaining about the attitude allegedly adopted to it by other fish merchants because it had successfully tendered for the supply of fish to* the Auckland Hospital. Board, was received by the board at a meeting last night. The company stated that in the past it had always been the practice that when one merchant happened to he short of fish other markets with more than their requirements would sell what they could spare. This practice had now been stopped and the company complained that it had been unfairly treated.
The company asked the support of the board and suggested that it should write to the secretary of the_ Wholesale Fish Merchants' Association, the Auckland Provincial Advisory Committee, the Bureau of Industry, and the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. Mr. J. H. Kinnear said the board had effected a saving of about £450 a year by accepting this company's tender. in the past three years the board had been paying too high a price for its fish, inland and country hospitals many miles away from shipping points receiving supplies at exactly the same cost as tho board. Tho contracting company was entitled to tho board's support, especially sinco much fish was being held in freezing chambers and being shipped to Australia. Tlio local market should be fully supplied first. Other members supported this view and after considerable discussion it was decided to adopt tho company's' suggestions, Mr. E. H. Pgtter recording his vote against the motion.
