' GOLDEN HIND ARRIVES .WORLD CRUISE PLANNED The 94ft". ketch Golden Hind, built by Deeming Brothers, of Opua, Bay of Islands, for Mr. H. It. Jenkins, of Bemuera,. arrived at Auckland yesterday morning and berthed at the Harbour Board's slipway wharf, St. .Mary's Bay. The vessel left Capo Brett at 4.15 p.m. on Sunday and came down the coast under her own power—a 66 horse-power Kelvin Diesel engine—and although not fully driven she averaged a speed of seven knots. The Golden Hind, which is the largest' pleasure craft of her kind in the Dominion, was designed by Mr. C. Bailey, of Auckland, and work on her was started two years and eight months ago. Her principal dimensions are as follows: —Length 94ft. overall, 75ft oil! the watcrlino, 22ft. beam, and 10ft.. 3in. draught. Tho yacht came Into port with her masts lashed on deck and they will# be stepped by Messrs. John Burns ancl Company, who will also rig tho vessel. The foremast is 105 ft. in height, and tho mizzen 70ft. The craft, which has been specially built for ocean cruising, will make her first cruise to Karotonga and other islands at tho end of the _ month or early in September. For this trip she will bo in command of Captain J. Benton. Later Mr. Jenkins intends to make a world cruiso extending over two years.
