LEADING GLASGOW TEACHER i' RECEPTION IN AUCKLAND ' A* Reception ;in honour of Miss J. F. S. Douglas, of Glasgow, a leading British authority on the education of the deaf, who is spending a brief holiday in New Zealand, was held at the Myers Kindergarten last night. The reception was arranged by officials of the New Zealand' League for' the Hard of jHearing and of the Auckland branch. !The'Dominion presidont. Dr. J.Hardie Neil,- presided ,over an attendance of about 100.• " lii welcoming Miss Douglas, Dr. Neil said she had recently retired from- the position of headmistress of the Renfrew Street School for the Semi-peaf in Glasgow, an institution which she had fostered from small beginnings until it was now one of the largest and best known of its type in Britain. Miss Douglas had published'much literature on hearing aids, and had given much of her time to the development of ft most successful League for the Hard of Hearing in Glasgow. On several occasions she had been chairman of the ScottishIrish branch of the National College for Teachers of the Deaf. The New Zealand League felt honoured in entertaining her.. he added. Dr. Neil.read a message of welcome to Miss Douglas, sent on behalf of the Government by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry. In her reply. Miss Douglas referred to the development of leagues for the hard of hearing in Groat Brituin, and discussed methods of educating and entertaining the deaf. During the evening an address on Scotland was given by Miss Elsie K. Morton.'Folk dancing items were given by hard of hearing students. Miss Douglas, who has been in New Zealand for the past fortnight, will, leave by the Monterey-for San Francisco on Monday on her return to Scotland.:
