Riggs virtually clinched tho No. 1 position in tho American Davis Cup team by the convincing manner in which ho defeated S. 13. Wood, 10—8, 6—4, 6—4, in 93 minutes in tho final of the Meadow Club's tournament. Riggs won a 1000-dollar trophy outright, having won tho tournament three years in succession.

Mr. W. Pate, non-playing captain of the American Davis Cup team, and Mr. Holcombe Ward, president of the American Tennis Association, wero spectators. They were delighted with Riggs* form. It is expected that the team will bo announced during tho Rye tournament next week.

The majority of American Bports writers pick Parker as the No. 2 player and are also of the opinion that Riggs and Parker may play in the doubles. Mako said to-day that he did not think he had a ghost of a chance of making the team. > .
