ECZEMA IN STOCK
BLANCHES OF RESEARCH COMPREHENSIVE INQUIRY ONE PHASE AT MOUNT ALBERT Practically every phase of agricultural science has been enlisted in the search for the cause and control of facial eczema in stock. Described as the most comprehensive single investigation ever carried out in New Zealand into livestock diseases, the 'woik has occupied veterinarians, grassland experts, chemists and mycologists. One of the principal features of the investigations has been the extensive survey by veterinary and field officers of the Department Agriculture in the areas in South Auckland that were principally affected by the epidemic more than a year ago. This work has been supplemented by pathological research, while other reports dealing with specialised aspects of the problem have been prepared by a bio-chemist, grassland experts and other chemical research workers. ' The Government plant research station at Mount Albert has also played a part in the exhaustive inquiry. The possibility of a nutritional factor being responsible was suggested as a subject for close examination, and the mycologist at Mount Albert, Mi J. C; Neill, is at present investigating the question of fungi on grasses.
