EVENING RECEPTION ENTERTAINING PROGRAMME J MUSICAL ITEMS AND A PLAY Many members of the Victoria Len- : pue attended nn At Home in the Lewis Eady Hall last night, when a programme of musical items, sketches and a one-act play was presented. The guests were received by the president, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlatie, assisted by the chairman, Mrs. L. S. Rickerby, and tho chairman of the house committee, Mrs. C. 11. Keeblc. A welcome to the members and visitors was extended by Mrs. Macfarlane, Mrs. Rickerby presented a bouquet of flowers to Mrs. Macfarlane on behalf of the executive, in view of her impending departure for Suva on a holiday visit. Tho presentation of \ a travelling leather hat box was made to Miss Dorccn Saunders, who will leave shortly for England. Miss Saunders is a member of long standing of the Young Contingent, and has also held office as convener for the dramatic section. Brief addresses on the Victoria League cookery book and on the j monthly lectures were given by Mrs. L. I S. Rickerby and Mr. Rickerby, respec- ! tivcly. The programme, which was arranged by Miss Ela Hutchison, comprised songs by Mrs. Humfroy Gordon and Mr. I Geoffrey Laird, 'cello solos by Miss .June Taylor, pianoforte solos by Mrs. Reginald Reed, who also acted as accompanist for tho singers, a sketch by Miss Doreen Saunders and Miss Margaret Parkinson, and a one-act play produced by Miss Mavis McCulloch. The parts were taken hv Miss McCulloch, Miss Mary Pilkington, Miss Freda Warnock, Mr. Howard Newcombo and Mr. Ronald Fenton. Supper was provided by members resident in Parnell, City, Ponsonby and Heme Bay. The hostesses were: — Mrs. It. Coleman, Mrs. T. Russell, Mrs. .1. Bealc, Mrs. J. K. Black, Mrs. M. Tyne, Mrs. W. Leatham, Mrs. C. H. T. Palmer, Mrs. S. A. Stride, Mrs. P. A. Lindsay, Misses C. and F. Murray, Miss A. ft. Quayle, .Miss M. Chapman. Miss E. Dinneen, Miss L. MacShane, Miss Phyllis Lindsay. EVER READY COMMITTEE PARTY AT KNOX HOME ' The Victoria League ever ready committee held a very enjoyable afternoon party for the patients at Knox Homo yesterday. A musical programme was arranged by the sub-committee, Mrs. Humfrev Gordon acting as convener. It included songs by Mrs. Harold Owcrs, Mrs. .John Manning and Mrs. Humfrey Gordon, and pianoforte solos by Mrs. Reginald Reed, who also acted as accompanist for tho singers. Community singing brought the concert to a close. Books and magazines were distributed among the patients, and afternoon tea was served. Among those present were:—Mrs. .T. j B. Macfarlane, Mrs. L. S.
