DEATHS IN SPAIN
FALLEN NEW ZEALANDERS CEREMONY OF TRIBUTE Homage to the fivo New Zealand members of the International Brigade wlio died fighting in Spain was paid by about 900 people assembled in the Regent Theatre last night. The chairman was Dr. .T. P. Hastings. The New Zoalanders who memory was honoured were Messrs. G. R. Maclaurin, A. McClure, F. W. Robertson, J. Kent and W. Madigan. Mr. Maclaurin was a graduate of Auckland University College who subsequently studied at Cambridge University. Mr. McCluro was a graduate of Otago University.
Addresses were given by Dr. D. Jolly, n graduate of Otago University, ">ho returned to New Zealand recently aft<'r serving with the International Brigade, Mr. W. J. Lyon, M.P., Mr. K. M. Higgins, and the Rev. J. W. McKon/ie. The ceremony included the presentation of a tableau depicting a Spanish refugee woman with her baby in her arms on the French border, and (lie recital of a poem tracing events from the outbreak of the war to its close. The "Dead March" was played by tlio Auckland Wntcrsidcrs' Band, and the Lnst Post and llcvcillo were sounded.
