SOUTHLAND YEARLINGS FIRST SIR SIMPER COLT Some yearlings are being worked at Invercargill and the majority of them are likely to be prepared for early two-year-old events. r l he_ colt by Sir Simper from Dark Marie has been named Noko. He has a fine of galloping, and, being one of the first of Sir Simper's stock to appear, more than ordinary interest is being shown in his efforts. Garnui, / a filly by Garnish from Mapiti. is an excellent type. Her sire, Garnish, was an Australian-bred horse, by Ornamentation, and she is one of the first of his progeny. She fins demonstrated that she knows, how to gallop. An upstanding filly by Night #Raid from Full Fling ranks as a half-sister, to Wild Career.

A recent newcomer is a gelding by Nigger Minstrel from Miss Redowa,; who will race as Wild Coon. He is built on bigger linos than most of his ngo. A rolt. by Colonel Cvgnus from Lucky Light is also jneluded in Mr. W. E. Hazlett's team

TROTTING BREVITIES NEWS FROM ALL QUARTERS Dr. H. T. J. Thacker, who died in Christehuroh this week, was an owner of trotting horses some- years ago. The pormit surrendered by tho Marlborough Trotting Club has been transferred to the Methven Trotting Club, which will hold a meeting-on June 3. Passport, who has been a useful earner at the West Coast and Nelson meetings as a pacer, has been converted to the trotting gait and is an acceptor for the Waikaura Handicap at Oainaru. Passport is by Silk Thread from Nyallo. The Auckland-owned Great Jewel, who showed a return to form at Addington, is well placed in the Enfield Handicap at Oamaru to-dny. R. B. Berry has always held a high opinion of tho son of Jewel Pointer, and, if he repents his track efforts; it will take a good one to beat him. At a meeting of the board ■ of the New Zealand Trotting Association this week Bismuth was placed oil the schooling list. Tho owner wrote stating that lie did not intend to race the horse again. It was also decided to ask the owner of Royal Flush to show cause why that horse should not bo placed 011 the list- .

As Mute has reached the line from which lie cannot get classes to suit him in the North, T. Roe left the trotter with D. Bennett in Christchurch after the Easter meeting. Mute will race nt Forbury Park on May 11 and 13, and the first day is on the limit of a mile and five furlongs trotting event, a distance that should suit him well.

Acuity, who won a double at the Wellington Trotting Club's Summer meeting and established a track record of 3.13 3-5, suffered a lapse of form and did not fulfil her Hawera Cup engagement. She is reported to be working in approved style again and will have a chance to make amends in the Stewards' Handicap at Oamaru.
