WAITEMATA EXECUTIVE NATIONAL SERVICE PLANS UNIVERSAL SCHEME URGED A general advance in the w6rk of th 6 division Was shown in the reports presented at thf> animal meeting yesterday of the Waitemata provincial executive of tlie Women's Division of thfe Farmers' Union. The president, Mfs. Noel Adonis, presided. The treasurer, Mrs. Heron, stated that the finances of the executive were in a very satisfactory position. The housekeeping secretary, Miss J. Munro. stated that 70 engagements had been filled. It had been decided to raise the wages of the housekeepers. Financially this group was also in a good position. Development of Work

The report of the dressmaking classes was presented by Miss M. Logan. The southern group had finished its first course of 11* classes, all of which had been specially well attended. The executive was now beginning these classes in the western group. The organiser for the Waitemata urea, Mrs. K. Osbaldiston, stated that two new branches had been started dur-

ing the year, one at Wcllsford and tho otlier at Kurawhera. She considered that all presidents should act as organisers for their districts. Tho hospital visiting report was presented by Mrs. It. S. Judson. She stated that one lady alone had paid 47 visits. A vote of thanks to tho Auckland branch for its work in visiting the hospitals was passed by the meeting. The general secretary) Mrs. J. W. Henderson, also presented her report, which showed that the organisation had been steadily progressing in the different activities it had undertaken. The work had made the greatest progress in tho north. Preparing for Emergencies Tho president, commenting on the year's achievements, congratulated the delegates on the officiency of the work done by the branches they n&present&d.' Their great work for the coming year would be first-aid and home nursing, under tho direction of the St. John Ambulance Association. This wovild be organised among the branches on the same lines us the dressmaking classes. "I would say to the women of New Zealand, ask for conscription and universal service," said Mrs. Adams. "We cannot hope to compete against conscripted countries if we do not have them. Why sacrifice our best and bravest and so drain the country to its worst advantage? Tho best memorial we can offer our pioneers is a plan by menus of which we can protect the country they made for us for all time."

April 20 A country that will bo well represented at the triennial conference of the Associated Country Women of thfc World, to bo held in London m June, is Scotland. There will be a large contingent of rural Scottish women deletrates and an even larger contingent of delegates from various parts of the Empire of Scottish descent. The New Zealand delegation will also include several women of Scottish descent. "It is almost certain that most 6r these delegates will want to look up their family links in Scotland while they arc over here, and we are hoping that Scottish members of the association may be able to help them, stated an official. Among those who will lead the Scottish delegation will be the Countess of Klgin, nncl Mrs. Anstruther Gray, president of tho Scottish Women s Rural Institutes. _ . The largest delegation is being sent bv the United States, and it is believed that there will be many women in this group of 300 whose forbeurs also \\6re Scottish.
