FATE OF A YOUTH ACCIDENT IN ALIGHTING RAILWAY NOT TO BLAME " This poor lad got in the wrong train and thought he would jump ofi, which he did with fatal results," 1 said the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, at an inquest yesterday into the death of Alfred Capper, aged 15, an employee at a Westfield meat works. He died in the Auckland Hospital on March 18. Evidence was given that deceased left Massev Avenue, Green' Lane, where he was staying, at 6.40 a.m. to go to work. He boarded at Ellerslie a race train bound for Paeroa, which was not scheduled to stop at Westfield. A ticket inspector noticed that one of the passengers was holding a Westfield ticket, and he told him that he would have to go on to Otahnhu, as the train did not stop at Westfield. Deceased made no reply and appeared to know what train ho was on. At Otahuhu, the inspector continued, he was told that someone had jumped off the train as it was entering tho Otahuhu yards. He found deceased lying oil the left sido of the track bleeding from the head and face.

Dr. C. C. Ring said the cause of death was cerebral haemorrhage and lacerations.

Tho coroner's verdict was that deceased died from injuries accidentally received from jumping from a train in motion. No blame was attachable in any way to the railway officers.
