DOG'S LONG JOURNEY

VIENNA TO DOMINION travelling on liner OWNER NOW IN. AUCKLAND With two sacks of biscuits as luggage and his ticket tied to his collar, a Russian sheepdog, Peter, is on the way to Auckland by the Akaroa to join his mistress, Miss Marianne I. Nemhauser, formerly of Vienna, who reached New Zealand in January from London. Tho Akaroa is due at Auckland 011 April 21. Leaving Austria for England nearly a year ago, Miss Nemhauser arranged for Peter to follow her. He made the journey by air, but on arrival in England was placed in quarantine, and before the period of nine months had elapsed, his mistress came to Auckland, where she is now living.

Anxious to have her pet with her in her new home, Miss Nemhauser made arrangements for him to come to New Zealand immediately the quarantine period had expired. She said yesterday that a London firm had arranged the dog's transport, at a cost of £ls. A hundredweight of dog-biscuits left London with Peter to provide food for him on the long voyage. Purchased by Miss Nemhauser in Egypt three years ago, Peter has travelled extensively. Quite apart from his present trip, he accompanied his mistress on journeys to Palestine, Italy, Syria, Greece and Switzerland, and is a keen motorist, having travelled hundreds of miles in Miss Nemhauser's car.
