INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Hauraki Plains. —A meeting of the group was held recently. Miss Dunlop resigned her office as president. The elections resulted in Mrs. Wallace (Waitakaruru) being made president, and Mrs. Hinton (Waitakaruru) secretary. Kiokio. —Members of many surrounding King Country institutes were guests at the sixth birthday celebrations of the institute. The visitors were welcomed by Mrs. Stuart and Mrs. Luxmore, and Mrs. Martin assisted Mrs. Luxmore to conduct the entertainment. A short address was given by the prlesident of the King Country federation, Miss Crozier, who was later presented with a bouquet. Mrs. Beable reported on the King Country federation , meeting, " and on the recent Dominion council meeting. Items were presented by Mrs. Cockburn (Otorolianga), Misses Merle and Irene Pickford, Miss Avone Rogers, Misses Joyce and Peggy Smith, Miss Alderson, Master Gordon Smith and members of the Te Kuiti institute. Mrs. Luxmore was presented with a tea-set as a mark of appreciation for her work during her two years as president. Afternoon tea was served, and the birthday cake was cut.

Paramarua-Kopuku.—Tho following officers wero elected at the annual meeting:—President, Mrs. Noil; treasurer, Mrs. Drake; secretary, Mrs. Bronfield. Tho competition (bottled fruit) was won by Mrs. Holloway, with Mrs. Finlavson second and Mrs. Hawken third. Putaruru. —A short address was given at the monthly meeting by tho president, Mrs. A. Begbie. A letter and greeting card were read from the English penrriend. Papier inache work was demonstrated. The competition (puff pastry) was won by Mrs. A. C. Anderson and Mrs. Sayers. The hostosses wero Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Savers, Mrs. Sutton and Mrs! Anderson. Matakohe. —There was a large attendance at tho annual meeting, at which M iss Neil presided. The resignation of tho secretary, Miss Foster, was received with regret, and the president presented her with a crystal vase on behalf of tho members. Bouquets were presented to the office-bearer. Election results were:—President; Miss D. Neil; committee, Mrs. J. Deeming, Mrs. H. V. Metcalfe, Mrs. G. Broomfield, Mrs. R. Howland, Mrs. P. Stratford, Mrs. A. Leaf> Mrs. W. Royand, Mrs. R. Pasley, Mrs. J. Williams, Miss E. Smith and Miss E. Foster.

Whakatane. —Mrs. K. Armstrong was elected president at tho annual meeting of tho institute. An address was given by the retiring president, Mrs. L. Lisavv. Mrs. Norman won tho points prize and tho prize for introducing the largest number of new.members during tho year. Hunua.—The following officers were elected at tho annual meeting:—President, Mrs. W. Redman; vice-president, Mrs. J. Gamble; secretary, Mrs. A. Patterson; treasurer, Mrs. C. Ross; committee, Mrs. T. Redman, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Matheson, Mrs. Pickard, Mrs. J. E. Wilson, Mrs. W. Lockwood, Mrs. White, Mrs. Rickard, Mrs. Garvie, Mrs. Duxfield and Mrs. B. Lockwood. Howick. —The following officers wero elected at tho annual meeting:—President, Mrs. Rutherford; secretary, Miss Smith; treasurer, Mrs. Hoi ton; committee, Mrs. Wyatt, Mrs. Litten, Mrs. Gandy, Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. Brickctt, Mrs. Johns, Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Tracy. An address on quaint customs abroad was given by Miss Jones. Competitions were won by Mrs. Gandy, Mrs, Rutherford and Mrs. Austin.

Auckland. —The annual meeting was held recently, and presentations wero made to tho retiring president, Mrs. Ncal, and the retiring secretary, Mrs. Sudgen. The following officers wero elected: —President, Mrs. E. G. Brady; vice-presidents, Mrs. de Montalk and Miss Reston; secretary, Mrs. L. P. Jones; committee, Mrs. Horne, Mrs. Britham, Mrs. do Montalk, Mrs. Cassidv, Mrs. Cohvill, Mrs. J. A. Stewart, Mrs. Forbes, Mrs. Lornquist, Mrs. Carson, Mrs. McMillan, Mrs. Clayton, Miss Reston and Miss Shepherd. Otorohanga.—Election results at tho annual meeting were: —President,.Mrs. A. A. Smith; vice-presidents, Mrs. Baikio and Mrs. McCready; committee, Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Cockburn, Mrs. Church (press correspondent), Mrs. McDonnell, Mrs. Ormsby, Mrs. Still (Homo and Country), and Mrs. Will iamson. The hostesses for afternoon tea were Mrs. McDonnell, Mrs. Noshauson, Mrs. Rhodes and Mrs. Trapaki. Mrs. Church won the points prize for the year. The golden thread was continued by Mrs. A. Smith. Glen Massey.—Several new members were enrolled at the annual meeting, which was held recently. The following officers were elected: —President, Mrs. W. Kerr; secretary, Mrs. W. McCaig; treasurer, Miss D. Fowler; librarian, Miss M. Broeket.
