LOANS FOR HOUSING
Sir, —Referring to the number of loans granted by the State Advances Corporation for the erection of dwellings by private owners, published in your issue of April 6, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong said that, "in the last 11 months loans granted were more than double the loans made during the whole of the previous year." Further, he said that a notable feature of the loans for the past 11 months was that by far the greatest proportion of the increase was represented by "special loans," in which up to 95 per cent of the cost of the, dwelling can be advanced. .Mr. Armstrong conveniently omitted to stress the fact that these'dwellings were, with few exceptions, built in the cities. He also forgot to mention that the State Advances Corporation is not lending money to build farm houses, and has not been doing so for some time, except probably in "special cases." I should like to* see quoted side by side the number of houses built and loans granted to city dwellers, and those built and loans granted to farmers, by the State Advances Corporation. Square Deal.
