WRONG MAN STRUCK
SEQUEL TO ARGUMENT SEAMAN FINED FOR ASSAULT £by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Tuesday "Apparently the trouble in this particular assault was that he assaulted the wrong person," said Senior-Sergeant C. G. Paine, in the Police Court to-day, when Richard Godfrey Copley, seaman, aged 24, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., and pleaded guilty to assaulting George Frael. Mr. Paine said that yesterday afternoon accused and several other men entered into an argument in an hotel at 6.10 p.m. A meeting occurred on the corner of Cuba and Vivian Streets and accused was seen by Constable Rodgers to assault Frael. Apparently accused mistook Frael for the man he had been having the argument with, and he knocked him to the ground. It was also alleged that he kicked him. Questioned by the Magistrate, Copley said he agreed with the police that ho hit the wrong man. A fine of £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, was imposed.
