It was pointed out that the additional cost of completing the full, scheme would be £247,078 in excess of the original estimate, of which £151,974 was due to increased economic costs and £95,104 to other causes, such as unforseen constructional difficulties. The modification in the schem® decided on by the board to-day will reduce the ultimate cost by £105,300. The second of the two new wharves will he reduced practically to half the width originally intended, and four cargo sheds are to be provided on shore, serving all the wharves, instead of shed accommodation being provided on the second of the new wharves only. The completed cost of the modified programme will be £631,200, which is £141,778 in excess of the original authorities. The board decided to secure liuthority to raise a loan of £125,000 to cover the costs of the modified scheme.
