STATE HOUSING
BLOCKS AT MOUNT ALBERT OBJECTIONS BY COUNCIL The opinion that communal laundries were an unsatisfactory provision in the State housing scheme of attached dwellings and flats projected at the corner of Now North Road and Sainsbury Road, Mount Albert, was contained in a report presented by the borough engineer at the meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council last night and adopted by it Tho council also decided to support the recommendation of the engineer for tho construction of all the flats in permanent materials, instead of two of the blocks ill wood as was suggested by tho Department of Housing Construction. The latter proposal was regarded as entirely unsatisfactory. Apart from the question of laundries, the lay-out was considered satisfactory. The scheme outlined by the Director of Housing Construction envisaged the erection of a number of attached dwellings and flats, all units to be two storeys in height. His letter of advice stated also that provision had been made for a separate entrance to each tinit, and for access to a drying green and wash-houses. A sketch plan only was submitted.
